Need a 45 Degree Turn Without Using a Compact Short Bend?

A large outdoor PVC opening may need more than a screen. The final outlet may also need to change direction, while the installation has enough room for a wider curved body instead of a compact short-sweep shape.

The LGQF-LL 4 Inch 45 Degree Long Sweep PVC Vent Cap combines a wider 45-degree curve, an outer-fit lower socket and a fixed 304 stainless steel screen. It is made to finish a compatible pipe opening—not to seal it and not to act as a valve.

Approximately 4.5-inch compatible pipe OD
Wider 45-degree long-sweep geometry
Fixed 304 stainless steel screen
One-piece screened termination when permitted
Requires more clearance than the 45° Short Sweep

Look at the Shape, Fit and Screen

The three images below establish the key facts: this is the 4-inch Long Sweep model, the connecting socket fits over the pipe exterior and the opposite end is the finished screened outlet.

What “Long Sweep” Means Here

Long Sweep describes the physical geometry: the direction changes over a wider curve. It does not automatically prove a specific airflow gain, pressure-drop reduction or efficiency improvement.

A Wider Curved Body

The 45-degree change occurs over a larger radius than the compact Short Sweep design. That changes the amount of installation space the product occupies.

A Fixed Screened Outlet

The 304 stainless steel screen helps deter birds, rodents, insects, leaves and larger outdoor debris while keeping the termination visibly open.

One Finished Termination

When this exact shape is permitted at the final outlet, the curve and screen are combined in one product. The screened end is not another pipe coupling.

Long Sweep or Short Sweep? Choose by system requirements and available space—not by a promise that one is universally “better.” The 4-inch 45 Degree Short Sweep is more compact. This Long Sweep model has a wider curve and needs more clearance around the pipe.

Confirm the Diameter Before You Order

This is an outer-fit product. The lower socket pushes over the outside of compatible 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe. It does not insert inside the pipe opening.

  • Nominal pipe size: 4 inches
  • Typical compatible pipe OD: approximately 4.5 inches
  • Product fit opening shown in the current image: approximately 4.53 inches
  • Product outer rim shown in the current image: approximately 5.04 inches
  • Fit style: outer-fit / push-on lower socket

Measure the actual outside diameter of the existing pipe. A pipe sold as “4 inch” does not have a 4-inch outside diameter. If the measurement is materially different from about 4.5 inches, stop and confirm the pipe standard before ordering.

Check the Direction and Clearance Too

The existing pipe determines where the 45-degree outlet points:

  • On a horizontal sidewall pipe, the product may be rotated so the screened outlet angles down, sideways or up. Use only the orientation permitted by the system instructions.
  • On a vertical roof pipe, the screened outlet angles upward and outward relative to the pipe. Do not call this a rain-proof orientation; verify whether that exposure is acceptable.
  • Allow room for the wider curve, the approximately 5.04-inch outlet rim, nearby walls, roof surfaces and maintenance access.

This Product May Fit When

  • The existing pipe is compatible PVC
  • The nominal pipe size is 4 inches
  • The measured pipe OD is approximately 4.5 inches
  • An outer-fit socket can slide over the pipe
  • A 45-degree long-sweep shape is permitted
  • There is enough room for the wider curved body
  • A fixed screen is permitted at the outlet

Do Not Assume It Fits When

  • The pipe is metal, flexible, corrugated or thin-wall
  • The actual pipe OD has not been measured
  • You need a compact Short Sweep bend
  • You need a complete 90-degree direction change
  • You need a sealed cap, damper or valve
  • The system prohibits a screen
  • The opening carries pressurized discharge

Where This 4 Inch Long Sweep Termination May Be Used

The pipe size alone does not approve an application. Each installation still depends on the appliance or system instructions, the final orientation and whether a screen is allowed.

Furnace Intake or Exhaust

May be used only when the furnace manufacturer permits the 4-inch pipe size, a 45-degree long-sweep termination and a fixed screen. Confirm equivalent vent length, airflow, condensate behavior and clearances.

PVC Roof Termination

May be suitable for an approved PVC roof vent where an upward-and-outward angled screen is permitted. It is not roof flashing, a roof fan or a guarantee against rain and snow entry.

Drain, Overflow or Pool Line

May suit an approved non-pressurized outdoor drain, overflow or pool backwash-related opening when the screen will not trap required solids or interfere with the required water path. It is not a pump, hose or pressure fitting.

Important Safety and Performance Boundary

  • Long Sweep describes the curve. Without system-specific testing, do not claim a fixed airflow improvement, lower pressure loss, reduced turbulence or higher HVAC efficiency.
  • A fixed screen reduces the open area. Never describe this product as “no restriction” or “full unrestricted flow.”
  • The 45-degree direction may reduce direct exposure in some orientations, but it cannot guarantee prevention of rain, snow, backflow, flooding or freezing.
  • This is not a backdraft damper, check valve, backflow preventer, sealed end cap, roof flashing, exhaust fan, drain grate, pump adapter or pressure-rated discharge component.
  • Do not use it on metal flues, chimneys, dryer vents, flexible ducts or systems outside the PVC body's permitted temperature and chemical limits.
  • Keep the screen visible and reachable for periodic inspection and cleaning.

What Real Installations Teach Us

“Four Inch” Is Only the Starting Point

The most common fit mistake is measuring the opening instead of the pipe exterior—or assuming a nominal 4-inch pipe measures exactly 4 inches outside. A quick OD measurement before ordering avoids a preventable return.

The Wider Curve Has to Fit the Space

A Long Sweep model may look similar to a compact 45-degree product in a small thumbnail. In the real installation it reaches farther from the pipe. Check siding, roofing, nearby pipes and the room needed to inspect the screen.

Outlet Direction Changes With the Existing Pipe

On a sidewall pipe, the outlet can often be rotated to an allowed position. On a vertical pipe, the same product creates an upward-and-outward outlet. Careful buyers picture that final direction before choosing the shape.

The Screen Still Needs Attention

Stainless steel helps with outdoor durability, but it does not make the termination maintenance-free. Leaves, insects, frost and system-specific residue can collect on any outdoor screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pipe does this 4 inch Long Sweep vent cap fit?

It is designed as an outer-fit termination for compatible 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe with an outside diameter of approximately 4.5 inches. Measure the actual pipe before ordering.

Does it insert inside the pipe?

No. The lower socket pushes over the outside of compatible PVC pipe. It is not an internal insert-style screen.

What does the 4.53-inch measurement mean?

The current dimension image shows the product fit opening at approximately 4.53 inches. It is intended to fit over compatible PVC pipe measuring approximately 4.5 inches OD.

What is the difference between Long Sweep and Short Sweep?

The Long Sweep changes direction over a wider curve and requires more clearance. The Short Sweep is more compact. The correct choice depends on the permitted geometry and available space.

Does Long Sweep guarantee better airflow?

No universal performance claim should be made without testing in the actual system. Long Sweep describes the physical curve, not a guaranteed airflow, pressure-drop or efficiency result.

Can another pipe connect to the screened end?

No. The screened end is the final open termination. It is not a second coupling socket.

Can it be used for a furnace intake or exhaust?

Only when the appliance manufacturer permits the 4-inch pipe size, 45-degree long-sweep geometry and a screened outlet. Confirm vent length, airflow, condensate behavior and clearances.

Can it be used on a roof vent?

It may be suitable for an approved PVC roof termination when the resulting upward-and-outward outlet and fixed screen are permitted. It is not roof flashing and does not guarantee rain or snow exclusion.

Can it be used for an outdoor drain or pool line?

It may suit an approved non-pressurized drain, overflow, backwash or pool-related opening when the screen will not interfere with required flow or solids passage. It is not a pressure-rated discharge fitting.

Is it a sump pump discharge adapter?

No. It is a screened PVC termination, not a pump, hose, adapter, quick connector or valve. Do not use it where a pressurized pump outlet or unrestricted solids path is required unless expressly approved.

Does the 45-degree outlet prevent rain or backflow?

No. Its effect depends on final orientation and weather exposure. It is not a backflow-prevention device and cannot guarantee protection from wind-driven rain, flooding or reverse flow.

Does the screen have zero restriction?

No screen should be described as having zero restriction. Verify the available screen area and the system's airflow or water-flow requirements.

Will it prevent freezing?

No. Freezing is affected by condensation, temperature, wind, snow, system operation and outlet placement. This product does not guarantee freeze prevention.

Can it be used on metal duct or flexible dryer vent?

No. It is intended for compatible PVC pipe and is not designed for metal duct, chimney flue or flexible dryer vent.

Does the stainless steel screen require maintenance?

Yes. Inspect it periodically and remove accumulated leaves, insects, frost or other material according to the appliance or system maintenance requirements.

Measure the Pipe, Then Picture the Final Direction
